關(guān)于腫瘤研究，研究人員們就像是被悶在癌癥“黑洞”里，苦思冥想、潛心鉆研，也只是有一點(diǎn)新發(fā)現或成果出現，并沒(méi)有實(shí)質(zhì)性的進(jìn)展。幾十年來(lái)，化療和放療方案沒(méi)有太大的變化，新藥層出不窮，價(jià)格不斷提升，而兩者的價(jià)格已經(jīng)升到了病人無(wú)法接受的程度。大大小小的醫院幾乎把外國洋設備全部進(jìn)口到中國，硬件達到了先進(jìn)的水平，可療效并沒(méi)有得到真正的提高。先進(jìn)的加速器與幾十年不變的療效，幾乎就像兔子和烏龜在賽跑，最終能否得到寓言描述的結果？那需要腫瘤研究人員的堅持。

好幾次與某些領(lǐng)導見(jiàn)面，介紹到我時(shí)就有些委婉，有的人還這樣說(shuō)：“于保法，開(kāi)辦腫瘤醫院，噢，當然還有些爭議。”研究癌癥的治療我也就是帶了一個(gè)頭，卻把一些莫名爭議歸到我一個(gè)人身上，成了對我個(gè)人的爭議，我表示不理解。
For several times I met some leaders who were somewhat euphemistic to introduce me, someone even said like this "Yu Baofa, who had opened the tumor hospital, oh, of course, there is some controversy." 我并不是、也不想一個(gè)人在行業(yè)里單打獨斗，但公立醫院與私立醫院實(shí)質(zhì)上就不在一個(gè)起跑線(xiàn)上。解放前，醫院大多是民營(yíng)經(jīng)營(yíng)，如北京協(xié)和醫院建院時(shí)就是私立醫院。山東的齊魯醫院初期也是外國人個(gè)人籌資興建的。解放后，中國的醫院都改為公有化，但是其為病人服務(wù)的性質(zhì)沒(méi)有變，永遠也不能變。20世紀90年代開(kāi)始，國內才逐漸有了私立醫院的出現，間隔了50年，私立醫院再次興起，相關(guān)的配套政策、管理規范和措施等卻沒(méi)有相應的規定。實(shí)際上，目前的私立醫院在夾縫中發(fā)展。

問(wèn)題是所有公立醫院在癌癥的治療上雖處于整體的優(yōu)勢，但要具體到癌癥的治療、病人的生活質(zhì)量和療效上，大醫院也沒(méi)有優(yōu)勢可言。病人要療效，病人要生活質(zhì)量，病人就有權利擇院擇醫，找療效滿(mǎn)意的醫院，病人可以判斷出療效的好與不好，所以腫瘤醫院提高療效是發(fā)展的根本。
All public hospitals were at integrally advantages in the treatment of cancer, while they had no advantage at all on the specific aspects such as the treatment, the quality of patients’ life and the efficacy of cancer treatment. The patients wanted to get good curative effect and better quality of life, and they had the right to choose the hospital and the doctor, finding the satisfactory hospital and determining the efficacy, so to improve the curative effect is the fundamental for a tumor hospital’s developing.
